Our daughter is starting Junior Infants in Allenwood this August and we are delighted to hear the update yesterday by Martin Heydon T.D. that the girls and boys schools will be amalgamated in time for the new school year.
I was at the Parents Association meeting where the very productive committee, led by Chairperson Brenda Lenehan, made the decision to survey the parents regarding interest in a proposed amalgamation. This was very quickly followed by a formal poll by the school on behalf of the Board of Management. Both polls found that the parents were in overwhelming favour of merging the schools and a decision was made to proceed with this by a formal request to the Department of Education from the school principals.
This all happened in May and I then contacted Martin Heydon TD to see if he could ask the Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, if it would be possible to expedite the process in time for the 2018/2019 school year. Martin indicated that he was already in contact with the principals of the schools and had been talking to the Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, about the proposal. It is a pleasant surprise to many parents that we are going to have a single mixed school in time for the new year and great to see the process moved along so quickly by all involved.
