Drehid Against Wind Turbines Presentation
I gave a short presentation at the 2nd Drehid Against Wind Turbines meeting in Carbury last night. I was able to show local residents a computer simulation with the original 14 turbines represented as scale models in the locations as proposed last month. The latest revision to the proposal sees two turbines in the vicinity of Drehid Cross removed, and some of the other turbines moved further away from residences.
Several TDs and Councillors were present and the prevailing attitude seemed to be that wind energy is necessary but turbines should be installed only in locations deemed suitable. The community would need to present their case to the planning authorities in order to prove the location of the proposed wind farm as unsuitable.
Johnstownbridge Forest
I noted during my presentation that a forest area near Johnstownbridge GAA club was going to be “home” to a few of the turbines. I visited the forest recently, as a large area of it will be cut down to make way for the turbines and the access route. It is important that any wildlife in the forest are identified and the impact to them is accurately assessed and described on the planning application by Element Power. A local woman at the meeting was able to show me a video of a family of deer in the forest. I might return to see if I can get a glimpse of them myself.
Element Power Information Booklet
Attached is the latest information booklet from Element Power which was given to me by a resident at the meeting. As of today, the website mentioned in the booklet is still not live having been registered in July, as I wrote about in Computer Simulation of proposed Drehid Wind Farm.
