I was delivering leaflets about the Grand Canal Greenway in Killina just before Christmas. On my rounds, I visited a lane way where some friends of mine live. I was shocked at the state of the section of the lane way where they live and contacted my friend to find out more. It is suspected that the neglected roads are not in charge of the council. The roads have not been properly maintained for 20 years now.
In recent months, I have been making a point to visit as much of the area in the Clane LEA as possible. Having travelled many of the roads and lane ways, I can state for a fact that some of the lane ways in Killina are the worst in the Maynooth Municipal District, if not the county.
I have written to Kildare County Council to ask them to inspect the lane ways, and to explain if it is the case that the section of road in not in their charge. If it is the case then we need to work with the residents and the council to find some resolution to the issue. It is unacceptable for the families living on these lanes to have to navigate such a surface on a daily basis in the 21st Century.
