Yesterday, I submitted my report on the proposed Grand Canal Greenway. I received a lot of great feedback through my online form, by email, over WhatsApp, on Facebook Messenger and by talking to people on the doorsteps. I believe I have captured all that feedback in my submission, which is available at the bottom of this post.
The majority of people recognise that the Grand Canal Greenway will be hugely beneficial and the advantages of having it seriously outweigh any downsides. I am happy to get behind it with the community.
In my submission, I ask Kildare County Council to focus not just on the Greenway itself, but also on the links it will provide for local communities. Links to the likes of Allenwood village and its services, or the town lands west of Allenwood, that have been cut off from the main village for many years. The link to Lullymore, with its existing tourist attractions, merits huge consideration.
It is important that the Greenway serves the local communities in addition to visitors and provides benefits to all of its users. I believe that by taking on board the ideas in my submission, the council and Waterways Ireland, will be able to do that.
