In 2018, I did an assessment of the playgrounds in North West Kildare which showed that there is a lack of these valuable amenities in this rural corner of the county.
I welcome the publication of the new Kildare Play Strategy 2018-2028 which aims to address that concern by proposing five new playgrounds in Johnstownbridge, Carbury, Derrinturn, Robertstown and Kilmeague. This is in addition to the project to build a playground in Allenwood, which is well under way.
The biggest obstacle to getting a playground project off the ground is finding a suitable location. This is something that I took the initiative on for Allenwood Playground and I am now doing the same for Carbury. I encourage anyone that is really interested in having their area next in the pipeline of playground projects, to get involved and work with me to help find a suitable site.
The strategy also pays specific attention to the need for inclusive play equipment, which is thankfully a given objective of a new playground these days. You can read the complete strategy here: Kildare Play Strategy 2018-2028
