At a recent council meeting I proposed that 40% of the commercial rates from landfill sites, like the one at Drehid, would be allocated towards road safety and improvement projects.
The council deemed it to be an unworkable solution and so the fight to improve safety at Killina National School, the Skew Bridge, Allenwood Cross and Dag Welds continues.
€470,000 is paid by the Drehid Waste Management Facility every year in commercial rates and yet no funding is available for already identified road safety projects.
