This Bord na Móna Locomotive drawing milled peat is a rare sight in the bogs these days, and sadly coming to an end, but I fully support Bord na Móna’s new strategy to go from brown to green. Many of us have Bord na Móna to thank for why we live where we do today, having provided our ancestors employment and homes in West Kildare.
I am reading that the Just Transition Fund is not being applied to County Kildare in the same manner as the other Midland counties impacted by the end of peat production, and I have made enquiries about this. The closing of Lullymore Briquette Factory and Allenwood Power Station were massive losses for West Kildare, no different than closures in other counties.
