Bord na Móna are testing solar panels alongside the existing wind monitoring mast in Lullybeg at the moment. I am currently learning as much as possible about renewable energy projects in peatland areas as we await details of the company’s plans for the West Kildare bogs.
I think all such projects need to be approached with an open mind, but certainly it will be up to the local community to identify and raise awareness of the impacts on biodiversity and nearby families.
