Best of luck to the new committee which has formed to oversee the restoration of Carbury Community Centre in Derrinturn. The group was awarded €45,000 through the Town and Village Renewal Scheme to get an initial restoration plan done up, following an application by Kildare County Council.
The committee has representatives from local community groups that are in need of a premises, including Derrinturn Scouts and St.Conleths Boxing Club. It was interesting to see that the hall was also used for boxing tournaments in its early days, as this extract from the Leinster Leader in 1944 shows.
At our MD meeting last Friday I asked the council to continue to support the group as they progress this project and they assured me that they will.
