I marked World Wetlands Day with a guided tour of the amazing Lullybeg Wetlands by Michael Jacob yesterday. Situated just west of Lullymore, the old Bord na Móna railway tracks run right by the wetlands and this provides yet another good reason to reopen those tracks as walkways for the public.

I walked the route of the future Blueway from Ballyteague to Rathangan last weekend. There is plenty to see along the route including the fascinating Griffith Aqueduct, near Cloncumber. Martin Heydon TD and I met with Minister Madigan in May last year to stress the benefits that the Blueway would bring to our local area. Deputy…
Happy New Year to all, and especially to “Tara, Mark & Kids”. Their Christmas Card from their neighbour, John, somehow ended up on the side of the road in Ballyteague, along with a load of household waste including used nappies and boxes from toys. I’m looking forward to catching loads more fly-tippers in 2020. This…
The constituencies for the next General Election were reviewed and will be updated for 2020. Kildare South is now extended right up to the north west of the county. In addition some areas of West Kildare return to the constituency along with some parts of Laois and Offaly. I have created an updated map of…
Our first ever Goal Mile in Allenwood was a great success on the morning of Stephen’s Day. We were very lucky to avoid any showers and had over 300 participants, with great representation from Allenwood, Ballyteague and surrounding areas. Well done to Celine Cronly, who organised the entire event at very short notice. Celine lined…
I was at St. Oliver Plunkett National School in Killina on Monday morning, where I met with staff from the Kildare County Council roads section, Principal Tyrrell and a member of the Board of Management, to analyse the current situation with regard to access and safety at the school. A number of both short and…
I was honoured to present Craig Lenehan with his Senior Team Young Player of the Year award for Coill Dubh AFC at the weekend. I had the pleasure of working with Craig for many years as he played for our very successful youth team at Allenwood Celtic AFC. It’s great to see him getting better and better now with Coill…
I had often noted some large man-made holes on satellite images of Lodge Bog, Allenwood South but never gave them much thought. When I started investigating flooding in Allenwood South, a landowner from Ballyteague informed me that the bog holes were part of a pumped drainage system that he believed was causing flooding on his…
Allenwood South probably has the highest percentage of residential private roads of any townland in the county at 45% of minor roads. Private roads account for 3.6km of the total 8km of minor roads in the area. Residents of private roads are not exempt from paying LPT, Development Levies or Motor Tax. Yet, they have…
One of the topics I am focused on in relation to the waste water system in Allenwood is the problematic Allenwood North section. Progress is slow, but Irish Water are now 100% committed to resolving the system in Bluetown. The land dispute has been resolved and Irish Water are now able to work on the…
