I was very impressed by the students of St. Brigid’s National School, Ticknevin recently. The speeches were excellent and it was great to meet their Active School committee and raise their new flag for them. The teachers were surprised to learn that I only live 4 kilometres from Ticknevin on the other side of Killina…
My thanks to the Water Safety Development Officer in Kildare County Council for providing a new lifebuoy for Ticknevin Lock. Kindly mounted by our local roads team. Thanks also to the resident who made me aware of the lack of a lifebuoy here recently.

I was out at Carbury Church at the weekend to see the completed repair works that I had the pleasure of announcing funding for last September. The church and village are looking great and are a credit to the residents that volunteer their free time to look after their local community.
Great community spirit in Carbury today, with people out cleaning their local ditches and hedgerows. I stayed within my own 5km by tidying the Grand Canal towpath between Killina and Kilpatrick. Thanks to John Daniels and everyone involved in organising this clean-up.
The Environment department of Kildare County Council run the ‘Green Kilometre’ scheme every year, to encourage groups or individuals to look after a stretch of road near where they live.
