If you’re looking for somewhere to go for a walk or a cycle, where there’s plenty of space between you and others, then the Mount Lucas Wind Farm is worth a visit. It’s open to the public and only a 30 minute drive from Allenwood and 20 minutes from Carbury. I visited recently in order…

Most of us in North West Kildare are lucky enough to live close to the Grand Canal. It is a free amenity that is already being used by many locals every day, and now it is being promoted as a tourist attraction to a wider audience. You don’t need to wait for the completion of…
Day 1 of home schooling and the homework is being done before it’s even 9:00! Please remember that the reason for closing the schools is to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Don’t arrange meetups or gatherings with children that are not absolutely necessary. Look after your health by going for walks in the fresh air…
I attended the AGM of the Kildare and District Football League tonight, where all recommended precautions for preventing the spread of COVID-19 were taken. This included social distancing, by setting the chairs apart from each other. Please take care with any planned events to maximise the protection of vulnerable members of your community in the…
Well done to the members of Balyna Foroige, for hosting a very successful Kildare Foróige’s Got Talent in Johnstownbridge tonight. Tonight we saw some really amazing, confident young people perform to a packed hall. They’re a credit to their parents and their leaders.
At our full council meeting yesterday, I raised a motion to ask if the council has every power available to it to stop fly tippers from desecrating our countryside. I also asked that the council formally notify the Minister for the Environment of our concerns over the ineffectiveness of the €150 fine. With the support…
An individual from Dublin was identified by a letter I found in household waste near the level crossing on the Lullymore Road in Allenwood South. They will receive a €150 fine which is not high enough in my opinion. Unfortunately GDPR means their identity must be protected, which doesn’t make sense to me as fly-tippers…
I was at the launch of the Kildare Community Biodiversity Project on behalf of Allenwood Tidy Towns last night. Well done to County Kildare Heritage Office for organising this massive initiative. We will be writing to local schools and groups to invite them to the training in the coming weeks. Interested individuals are welcome to attend also. Please keep…
Kildare County Council have refused planning permission for the proposed Cushaling Wind Farm, near Ticknevin and Lullybeg. The planner’s report mentions issues with the proposed development being too close to a proposed large scale Irish Water project, the lack of suitable road infrastructure for the construction of the wind farm, and the fact that Offaly…
I marked World Wetlands Day with a guided tour of the amazing Lullybeg Wetlands by Michael Jacob yesterday. Situated just west of Lullymore, the old Bord na Móna railway tracks run right by the wetlands and this provides yet another good reason to reopen those tracks as walkways for the public.
