In 2018, I did an assessment of the playgrounds in North West Kildare which showed that there is a lack of these valuable amenities in this rural corner of the county. I welcome the publication of the new Kildare Play Strategy 2018-2028 which aims to address that concern by proposing five new playgrounds in Johnstownbridge,…

In the Clane / Maynooth Municipal District meeting for July, I put forward a motion asking Kildare County Council to engage with the main stakeholders involved in offering the site for Allenwood Playground near the ACDAL building on Station Road.
As recorded in the minutes of the meeting, the Parks Section of the council are resigned to the fact that the original site is no longer an option and are now looking for alternative sites for a playground.
I was asked to write a little about myself for the local papers recently, just to let people know my priorities coming up to the local elections. My main reason for getting involved with the community, which is now also my main reason that I am running in the local elections, is that I am…
Very positive news came in regarding Allenwood Playground yesterday. I received notice that Allenwood Tidy Towns have been awarded €51,385 from the Drehid Community Grants Scheme to help build the playground. Whilst we will need additional funding to be provided by Kildare County Council, this grant will go a long way towards getting our playground started. We…
I held a public meeting tonight in Carbury GAA Hall regarding a playground project. I presented assessments of four potential playground sites and with the agreement of the community members present, decided that one particular site was to be further investigated. A committee was formed on the night and I am now working with that…
Yesterday was the deadline for the receipt of public submissions in relation to the Planning Application for Allenwood Playground. I wrote and submitted a report on behalf of our playground group. The primary request from the Allenwood Tidy Towns Playground group was that the playground be designed with inclusiveness in mind. We asked that the…
I wrote last year about the lack of playgrounds in North West Kildare and how I planned to do something about that (see https://brendanwyse.ie/…/playgrounds-in-north-west-kildare…/). Today, I am launching a campaign to create action groups for Carbury, Clogherinkoe, Broadford and Johnstownbridge to find suitable locations for playgrounds in those areas. If you are interested in joining an…
I have been leading the Allenwood Playground project for a couple of years now. Today, a significant milestone was announced. Kildare County Council announced that the Part 8 planning process for Allenwood Community Playground has commenced. Allenwood Tidy Towns have been working with the council and a group of interested members of the community to…
At the public meeting I hosted in order to get the Allenwood Playground project moving again, I presented some statistics regarding the availability of playgrounds to the communities of North West Kildare. These figures are available in the presentation at Allenwood Playground Public Meeting. Today, I am providing a map showing all existing playgrounds and those…
Earlier this year, I submitted quotations from four Landscape Architects to Kildare County Council to design a high level plan for the site at ACDAL where we are going to build the playground. I am happy to confirm, as reported on KFM (https://kfmradio.com/news/21062018-1054/architect-retained-prepare-allenwood-playground-design) that one of these architects has been asked to begin work on…
