I was asked to write a little about myself for the local papers recently, just to let people know my priorities coming up to the local elections.
My main reason for getting involved with the community, which is now also my main reason that I am running in the local elections, is that I am not happy with the lack of basic amenities in our rural areas considering how much Local Property Tax, PAYE, Development Levies and other taxes we have been paying over the last few decades.
It is unacceptable that in North West Kildare, the only playground is in Timahoe and was initiated by the community there. I made a statement when I began looking at getting the Allenwood Playground project moving again, that we will not be fund raising. We are already paying for amenities like playgrounds through our taxes.
Another area I will be focusing on is infrastructure. While large interconnector pipelines are built between the main towns, our rural waste water systems are dysfunctional, over capacity, or in the case of the most northwestern regions of the county, lack a public water supply.
This level of neglect is due to a lack of adequate representation in our areas and it is that gap that I hope to be able to fill.
