I was on the new Barrow Blueway in Ballyteague this afternoon. It was great to see the new walkway being used by plenty of local families. I also saw some horses on the path. Unfortunately horses are not permitted on the canal towpaths, and have already caused some damage to the brand new compacted dust…
I wish you all a very Happy and Safe Christmas and I hope 2021 is a better year for everyone. Thank you to the front line and essential workers that are working over the holiday break. Your dedication is appreciated. We look forward to a time when we can hold events as a community once…
My thanks to Maynooth Kilcock Lions Club for installing a new defibrillator at Daybreak in Allenwood. It is a very welcome addition to the village and well done to Amit and his team in Daybreak for allowing it to be installed at their shop. The Lions Club are having a Christmas Appeal at the moment…
With €108 million to be spent on bog restoration across Ireland, I am delighted to see Lodge Bog, Ticknevin Bog and the Timahoe Bogs included. Areas of Killina Bog are already rewetting too, with Sphagnum moss growing naturally there in places. https://www.leinsterleader.ie/…/five-kildare-bogs-to-be…
This RTE news video from 1962 features Coill Dubh village and Allenwood Power Station. No sound but still great footage. Watch from RTE’s website: https://www.rte.ie/archives/2017/0403/864784-turf-cutting-in-timahoe/?fbclid=IwAR0AwszvGkXha9scRHcTksWc0i6JejJG-04jB13I67HM_z6XjOqosYTsGiw
Coillte have installed a contactless card reader at Donadea Forest Park today so you won’t need to be rooting around for change on the way in any more. Hopefully it will reduce the occasional queues at the entrance.
Absolutely fantastic work by the pupils and staff of St. Farnan’s Post Primary School to produce this excellent video of their recent dance. I especially love the scene in the new Prosperous Town Park. The first performance in the park ever. I’m very lucky to have Lodge Bog as my back garden. One good thing about the pandemic is that it has allowed me to explore the area a lot. My favourite spots are the areas which have been rewetted by Bord na Móna, and the intact raised bog which is owned by the Irish Peatland…
Minister Heydon has announced €810,394 of Just Transition funding for ACDAL Allenwood. It is well deserved as ACDAL is growing in strength, providing more and more jobs for the community, as well as spaces for local groups like the Men’s Shed, Scouting Group, Na Fianna Ladies GAA and the site for the future playground. It…
Allenwood Playground is back on track again with the opening of the new Part 8 consultation period today. The playground site is kindly being provided by ACDAL Allenwood for use by the entire community. As secretary of Allenwood Tidy Towns, we led the process to find a suitable site, and last year secured a Drehid…
