13th December 2017

Part 8 planning application for Prosperous Town Park and Playground is approved at the monthly meeting of the Maynooth MD.

June 2018

In response to a question by Cllr. Brendan Weld at the monthly Maynooth MD meeting, the minutes state:

A report was received from Community and Cultural Development informing the members that it was proposed to carry out drainage works within Prosperous village to alleviate flooding issues experienced within the area, including that of the approved park lands.

These works would be complete by November 2018. Work on the development of the park would then commence in early 2019. In the interim, a detailed design of the park would be drawn up. Funding for the provision of the park remains in place.

September 2018

In response to a question by Cllr. Brendan Weld at the monthly Maynooth MD meeting, the minutes state:

The District Manager informed the members that drainage works needed to be carried out before any other works could commence and stated works were scheduled to commence in Quarter 2, 2019.

She also stated that a request had been sent to the Department of Rural and Community Development to authorise funding.

Cllr. Weld stated that the delay was not acceptable and asked that works commence in 2018 as originally planned.

January 2019

In response to a question by Cllr. Daragh Fitzpatrick at the monthly Maynooth MD meeting, the minutes state:

A report was received from the Community and Cultural Development Department informing the members that the progression of the park and playground was dependent on the completion of a drainage plan for the site.

The Roads, Transportation and Public Safety Department were currently in the process of appointing consultants to carry this out. It was hoped to progress the design for the park in the second half of this year subject to this drainage design being completed, and commitment to other works around the county which would form part of the Parks Section 2019 works programme.

March 2019

In response to a question by Cllr. Brendan Weld at the monthly Maynooth MD meeting, the minutes state:

A report was received from the Community and Cultural Development Department informing the members that the Roads, Transportation and Public Safety Department were currently appointing consultants to examine the drainage of the site. It was envisaged this work would be completed by the end of the summer.

Work on the development of a detailed design for the park was planned towards the end of 2019 but this was dependent on the completion of other projects outlined in the Parks Section Works Programme.

Construction on the park and a timeframe for this would be indicated to members once the detailed design and costings associated with these had been completed. It was likely that the works may have to be phased over a number of years.

5th July 2019

In response to questions from Cllr. Brendan Weld and Cllr. Aidan Farrelly at the monthly Clane / Maynooth MD meeting, the minutes state:

Following the completion of substantial drainage works to alleviate flooding issues on the site, the project was now moving to detailed design and construction.

Funding of €100,000 was received from the Town and Village Renewal Scheme 2016. However, the full cost of the development of the park will only become clear once the detailed design had been completed.

Councillor Weld stated he had allocated €60,000 LPT money for the project and asked if this amount and the €100,000 received from the Town and Village Renewal Scheme was still secure.

6th September 2019

A progress report on Prosperous Town Park was given at the monthly meeting of the Clane / Maynooth MD and the minutes state:

Ms Hunt updated the members on the progress of Prosperous Town Park. She stated that drainage works were completed in December 2018 and a project supervisor for the design process was appointed by the Roads Department in May 2019, the project was then handed over to the Strategic Projects & Public Realm Team for implementation.

Ms Hunt informed the members that the aim was to go to tender in October 2019 and that civil and landscaping works would take two months to complete depending on the weather. In relation to playground/gym equipment, she stated that the tender was to coincide with civil and landscaping works.

Ms Hunt stated that adult fitness equipment would follow when it had been assessed how the park was functioning. Ms Keaveney stated that all ground work would be completed first then the carpark would be one of the first things to be provided.

The members queried if the drainage works had resolved the flooding issues, Ms Keaveney confirmed that they had. The members also queried if the budget was in place for the project and Ms Hunt confirmed that the budget to proceed with and complete the project was in place.
